Chasing the Northern Lights

February 5 – 11, 2024

This is one of our annual key trips, but this year we are doing it longer and even more magical. There is probably no other trip that would evoke feelings of awe and wonder as this one. Reaching 250 km above the Arctic circle, enjoy rides pulled by reindeer and huskies in search of the magical Northern Lights; experience smoke saunas followed by a dip in a frozen lake, and take exhilarating rides in the Lappish winter wonderland landscapes.

Accommodation is in a gorgeous resort in a combination of traditional wooden cabins and glass igloos that allow you to see the Lights from the comfort and warmth of bed.

The trip begins with a day in Helsinki and a tour of the city, and this year we are also adding two days in Rovaniemi, the Lapland capital of Finland, and home to the famous Santa Claus Village. As an option, a day can be added to cross the Baltic Sea and visit Talinn, Estonia. An experience of a lifetime that should not be missed!

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Feb 5Arrival in Helsinki. Transfer to hotel; rest and a private city tour including the Rock Church and tastings in the local market. Dinner.
Day 2 Feb 6A few hours in the morning for additional visits and shopping in Helsinki before heading to the airport for the flight to Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland. Transfer and checkin at the hotel in Rovaniemi. Free dinner, followed by the first excursion in search of the Aurora!
Day 3 Feb 7
Head to Santa Claus village for a day of officially crossing the Arctic Circle, meeting Santa, and exploring the various charming locations in the village. Free evening.
Day 4 Feb 8We take a private bus this morning further up north to our main destination, Saariselka, at 250 km above the Arctic Circle. Checkin at Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort, before lunch, a walk around the grounds, dinner, and aurora hunting by reindeer at night.
Day 5 Feb 9An excursion to the local village then on to Inari, the main Sami town, to learn more about the Sami culture. In the afternoon, a snowmobile ride, followed by dinner and aurora hunting on the frozen lakes.
Day 6 Feb 10This morning, enjoy one of the highlights of the trip, a husky-sled ride in the forest. After lunch, head to the private smoke sauna to experience a true Finnish tradition that includes a jump in the ice pool..After dinner, more aurora hunting this time by snowtank.
Day 7 Feb 11Checkout and transfer to Ivalo airport for the flight back to Helsinki, and catching the ongoing flights to the final destination.
Lapland

Price Options

The price per person is Euros 5840 for double occupancy, and Euros 6870 for single occupancy. The price includes accommodation, domestic flights, private tours and transfers, some meals, and all activities.

Note: An early reservation discount of 10% applies for downpayment received before August 15.

Price Includes:

  • Airport pickup and drop-off in Helsinki.
  • One night in Helsinki in 5 * boutique hotel, bed and breakfast.
  • Two nights in Rovaniemi in 5 *  boutique hotel, bed and breakfast.
  • One night in a large glass igloo at the Arctic resort, bed and breakfast.
  • Two nights in a wooden cabin at the Arctic resort, bed and breakfast.
  • Private guided city tour of Helsinki including all entrance fees and food sampling.
  • Round-trip domestic flight Helsinki – Lapland – Helsinki.
  • Transfer from Rovaniemi to Saariselka.
  • Support with luggage transfers at the Arctic resort.
  • All dinners at the Arctic resort.
  • Lunch at Inari town.
  • All activities including reindeer, snowmobile, husky, and snow-tank safaris.
  • Private use of the Finnish smoke sauna for the group.
  • Full day excursion and Sami Museum in Inari.
  • Rental of thermal clothing and gear.

Price Does Not Include:

  • International airfare from your point of departure to Helsinki.
  • Dinners in Helsinki and Rovaniemi
  • All lunches except on Day 5 in Inari.
  • Transfers by taxi during free times.
  • Anything not specifically mentioned above.
  • Travel insurance.
  • Visa processing.

Payment and Terms

Status: This trip is open for pre-reservation with no downpayment.

A 10% discount applies if downpayment is received by Aug 15.

Group Size: Minimum 10   Maximum 14  Guests

To reserve your spot, a downpayment of 25% (Euros 1450) is requested.

A second payment of 50% by Sept 30.

Balance is due by Dec 1st.

Payment Options

All guests:

1- Cash payment in USD, or

2- Bank transfers to a bank outside Lebanon (please enquire about bank details)

Terms

  1. Trip will be cancelled if the minimum group size is not reached by October 1. All down payments will be returned.
  2. Cancellations after a group of 10 is formed and deposits are made to the resort is subject to a 30% cancellation penalty.
  3. Cancellations after 120 days from departure: 50%
  4. Cancellations after 60 days from departure: 100%
  5. No penalty is incurred if a replacement guest is found so that the group size does not drop below 10.
  6. All effort will be made to minimize any penalties.

Please Note:

The Aurora is a natural phenomenon and while we are going at the time of year with the best viewing probability, there is no guarantee that we will be able to see it.

We reserve the right to modify the sequence of the activities listed in the program above if it serves better the overall experience.
