Why Find the Goat?
In 2004, I decided to take a few months off to travel, with no particular purpose or pre-defined itinerary. Leaving my comfortable life, work, and friends in Boston, I stopped for a month in Beirut my hometown, before packing a small bag and buying a one-way ticket to Bombay (Mumbai). The next few months were a once-in-a-lifetime experience that involved trekking in the Himalayas, meeting the Dalai-Lama, and a retreat in a Buddhist monastery in the mountains above Kathmandu, Nepal.
It was during that time that I had my encounter with the White Goat. This was a spiritual, metaphysical, but very real experience, and one that defined this unique multi-month trip, providing a transformational moment in my life. I have told the details of this story to many of our guests, but only when I have felt that there is a receptive audience. It still feels very personal and private.
Yet this experience provided the spark for wanting to create a travel service that, as our slogan says, provides unique journeys for guests with curious minds. “My Middle East” was the brand when I started the business, but as it expanded and its focus shifted, we have rebranded to “Find the Goat”. It is our mission to design special travel experiences that allow each of our guests to have a transformational moment and live stories whose impact lasts a lifetime.
